Rainy Day

I don't know if it's the weather or nine months of looking for stuff to photograph but today I'm taking pictures of an empty berry box.

Plums

Our plums have ripened. We don't have many but we were able to get them before the other forms of wildlife

A Movie Title # 3

Would you believe Moby Dick? Universal Pictures is planning on releasing Moby Dick in 2010. They are shooting the movie at a couple of locations in Nova Scotia. I wandered onto this scene in Lunenburg.

Breakfast #34

Breakfast in a Bag !
Pop some omelette ingredients like chopped onions, green peppers and shredded cheese into a plastic ziplock baggie along with an egg or two. Pop in a pot of boiling water for about 10 minutes and presto individual (put name on baggie) omelette orders all ready at the same time.

Recessionary Economics # 253

What could be more secure than having a job making newsprint for one of the world's top newspapers. This plant in Liverpool, Nova Scotia makes newsprint for the New York Times. It's future is in doubt .

Cross #68

For those interested in taking pictures of animals: Dogs will pose, horses will work for carrots, blue jays for seed but cats do not like cameras or photographers .

Snack #291

Ember likes the carrots from our garden. I'm trying to work with layers in Photoshop Elements and I'm a very slow learner.

Feeding Jay

I've given Kiwi the chocolate lab a break and started annoying the blue jays at the feeder.

Organized #214

As soon as the rain stopped, I headed for the garden but this spider was already hard at work setting up a new web. I think it was using all eight legs.

Song Lyrics #296

I heard it through the grapevine Not much longer would you be mine. Oh I heard it through the grapevine, Oh and I'm just about to lose my mind. Honey, honey yeah. Marvin Gaye

Dragonfly Revisited

Maybe it's the cooler weather but the dragonflies seem to have more patience.

Backlighting #19

I backlit my favourite model with some borrowed gear... the sun and lake. The line of the wharf was pointing to a patch of red so I boosted the saturation a little to bring out the changes in the leaves.

Playground #236

After a day of subbing I find the deserted playground strangely relaxing.

Distorted #78

After spending years trying to hold the camera steady it's kind of fun to set the shutter speed at 1/2 second and just wave the camera around.

Inspiration #159

Last night I attended an interesting presentation by Stephen Patterson and I couldn't wait to go out hunting for patterns . This morning, I found an old rusting car body and shot it so that the lines were horizontal.

Hands #139

I wanted to share some more pictures from the Port Medway cemetary. In the 1800's the literacy rate wasn't that high so it was popular to put symbols on the headstones. One often sees clasped hands or a hand pointing to heaven. I noticed a number of hands pointing sideways. These seemed to be the headstones of wives . The fingers were all pointing to the husbands tombstone. Victorian wives must not have had a direct connection. I probably should say no more on this topic.
I did however notice another hand which stopped me in my tracks. This one was pointing downward.....

Things with Wings # 326

For your approval I submit an old slate tombstone from the Port Medway cemetary. I love the symbols on old headstones and this winged skull from the 18th century was my find of the weekend.

Communication #60

In 1966 Canada's first satellite communication earth station was built near Mill Village, Nova Scotia. We walked to the site today. The inflatable dome that housed the first station is long gone but we talked to the owner of the local general store. He told us about his father working at the station.

Harvest #143

Kiwi and and dug a row of our potatoes. She is always a big help in the garden.

Walk on the Wild Side

Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
We go for a walk in the woods almost every day and every time Kiwi has to bring a stick home. I often imagine someone else on the trail encountering this wild, tusked beast.

Sunset

Our house at sunset.
